Last week, while on a school field trip, a 3-year-old preschooler was left behind by his teachers and classmates, who were on their way back to school without even realizing the boy was missing.

3-year-old Karter Williams is a student at the Houston Independent School District (HISD) Head Start program at Thompson Elementary in Houston, Texas. Last Friday, he became separated from his teachers and classmates while they were visiting the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

A rodeo visitor, later on, found Karter and was thankfully able to get him connected with another class from the school, who were present at the same location for their field trip. At that time, his class was already on their way back towards Thompson Elementary School without even noticing that one of their fellow students had been left missing, ABC News reported.

His mother, Kelsey Williams was only informed about the incident Monday morning, 3 days after it took place.

"What if he felt like, 'I'm not going to see my mom. My teacher's left me. My friends left me," Kelsey Williams told SBC News' Houston station KTRK in an interview.

Williams further added that she was angry because the school's principal was the one who had informed her about the incident, and not Karter's teacher. She then went on to meet with an HISD official regarding the incident. Later on, HISD released a statement about the incident but did not mention anything regarding teacher discipline or how the incident even took place in the first place.

"HISD is aware of an incident involving a Thompson Elementary School student who was inadvertently separated from his class while on a field trip to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last Friday. The student was located within minutes by an event attendee who quickly reunited the student with another class from his school. The student was safely transported back to the campus with that class. The district works diligently to ensure the well-being of every child entrusted to our care, as the safety of our students is always our top priority," read HISD's statement.
