A 17-year-old girl called 911 after a man slashed her throat in broad daylight at a bus stop in California.

The victim was sitting at a Chula Vista bus stop, near the intersection at Broadway and H Street, Tuesday when an unknown man approached her from behind and grabbed her head, according to her statement. The suspect then reached around her neck and cut her throat with a sharp object, CBS 8 reported.

The suspect, later identified as 52-year-old Antwan Baker, walked away from the scene on foot without saying a word. The victim then called 911 and reported being cut in her neck by a stranger.

When responding officers from Chula Vista Police Department arrived at the scene, they found the victim with significant cuts to her neck. Cops provided the girl with assistance until medics arrived at the scene, as per 10News.

The teenager was conscious and managed to provide her account to the officers. She described Baker as Hispanic or Black and wearing a dark jacket.

"She described him as Hispanic or Black, wearing a dark jacket, and she believed him to be 50 to 60 years of age," read the police department's statement.

She received medical attention at a hospital and was on the road to recovery, police said.

Investigators set out on a "comprehensive search" for the suspect in the area and the surrounding neighborhood.

"This attack occurred at a bus stop, in clear view of a busy intersection during broad daylight," police added. "Authorities are still seeking witnesses and information related to this investigation."

Officers "broadcast an alert to surrounding law enforcement and began working with nearby businesses and community partners in an effort to gather evidence and apprehend the suspect. Detectives also canvassed nearby businesses in hopes of finding video footage," police added.

Police located Baker Wednesday morning and arrested him based on the video evidence. He was booked into San Diego County Jail on the charge of attempted murder.

"San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Officers assisted by checking their security cameras and found a video of the suspect fleeing the area," the statement added. "This video evidence was crucial in the search, which continued into the next day."
