A Texas woman is in legal trouble after discovering that she never returned a VHS tape to a video rental store over 21 years ago.

Caron McBride was charged with felony embezzlement of rental property in Oklahoma for her 2000 crime. The case was ultimately dismissed on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old had no recollection of renting “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and was unaware of this outstanding warrant until April 2020 when she attempted to change her last name and address from Oklahoma to Texas after getting married.

The Department of Motor Vehicles emailed her explaining that she must fix a legal issue in her home state and gave her a number to the courthouse to resolve the matter.

"I called it and the lady ... looked up the reference number and told me it was a felony embezzlement," McBride told USA Today. "I thought I was going to have a heart attack."

She’s traced back the rental to an old boyfriend who had two daughters at the time that likely rented the tape and never returned it.

McBride is currently attempting to take legal action since this not only hurt her and her family, but she could have gone to jail if she were to have been pulled over for something as small as a traffic stop.

"I was fortunate ... I didn't get pulled over and go to jail and arrested for a felony," she said. "Some of them weren't."
