TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio’s response to "blackfishing" accusation has received mixed response from social media users.

D’Amelio faced backlash after a photo of her looking unusually tanned went viral. Social media users immediately accused her of "blackfishing," a term which refers to using makeup or artificial tanning in order to look naturally dark skinned.

The 19-year-old TikToker responded to the backlash saying, "I never want to hurt or offend anyone. ever. I love you all and i hope y’all know i never have bad intentions ever."

However, her response received mixed reactions with some social media users believing it was vague.

"Dixie we know, we're just trying to educate you so you don't make the same mistake again ok? but dixie what you said was great, but we at least expected you to apologize. it is not that this is enough, but we expected you to put the word 'sorry' at the end. say apologize," one person tweeted.

"I love you, but you should apologize love, you offended people," another user commented.

"It's not that hard for you to apologize to black ppl saying these genetic texts whenever you and your friends make mistakes or crimes don't work anymore go out in public show your face and apologize to black people and if you're not black you don't have to accept her apology," another person commented.

However, some people also supported the TikToker.

“Chile ignore them—— it’s always the non black ppl abusing the word blackfishing... and it’s honestly harmful to the black community because it’s taking away from the validity of it... it was literally the lighting and camera that was used," one person tweeted.

"This is literally the point I just made elsewhere - blackfishing is a SERIOUS racist act, and throwing it around invalidates they severity of this act," another wrote.

"The pic was edited plus she had a natural tan and the lighting all had a part in it," another person tweeted.
