TikTok gives rise to a new health trend now and then and this time, users have come up with a new suggestion—pink noise has a range of benefits including providing deep sleep, improving focus, and relaxing the brain.

So what is pink noise? Put simply, it is a kind of sound that was assigned a color based on its bandwidth of frequency. The new trend is in line with a few others that did rounds on the video-sharing platform like brown and white noise.

Brown, white and pink noises differ in terms of the rate of energy they hold at the same frequencies. For example, white noise refers to more static noises such as the buzzing sound coming from an old television, whereas brown is characterized by its rougher intensity. Examples of brown noise include the rumble of a waterfall and the thunder of heavy rain.

But pink noise has surpassed them in popularity for offering to improve the focus in a better way. Studies suggest that it drowns out high-pitched sounds that humans find irritable and delivers a softer and calming sound that lulls a person to sleep quickly.

Some examples of pink noise are as follows:

  • Mild rainfall
  • Rustling leaves
  • Ocean waves

Users were convinced of its benefits ever since some people released videos claiming it helped them in multiple ways. So far, "#pinknoise" clocked in more than 12.4 million views on the platform.

One TikTok user has gone viral after posting an explainer on the pink noise trend, claiming she woke up at the first ring of her alarm after catching a good night's sleep.

Another user echoed her thoughts on the trend by saying it helped improve her chronic tinnitus.

Experts emphasize the importance of getting good sleep as the lack of it causes a person to be less energetic and lacking in focus. 35.2% of all adults in the U.S. sleep for lesser hours of sleep than recommended, which leaves them feeling drowsy during working hours, a report by the Sleep Foundation revealed.

People now can digitally access pink noise thanks to diverse mobile apps like Headspace, Calm, and Slumber, just to name a few. Pink noise is arguably better than white or brown noise as it provides deeper sleep by increasing slow-wave activity in the brain, as per the report. It can also have other benefits like lowered stress levels and a better functioning immune system.
