The United States is undoubtedly the worst-hit nation by the coronavirus pandemic. It is the only country to have more than 2 million cases and the threat just keeps getting bigger.

There are several reports claiming that people are not taking the precautionary measures seriously. Due to negligence on the part of people, there has been a spike in the COVID-19 cases since the past few days and it seems like the U.S. is experiencing a second wave of this life-threatening virus.

Many celebrities have come forward to encourage people to follow the safety guidelines and the latest to jump on the bandwagon is none other than Tom Hanks. However, he did not mince his words and slammed the people who are not wearing masks when stepping outside of their houses amid the pandemic.

The “Sully” actor urged fans to follow three things to ensure a better tomorrow. The three things that people need to do, according to him, are wearing a mask, following social distancing norms, and washing hands. The actor went one step ahead and noted that if people cannot follow the simple instructions given by medical professionals, then they should be ashamed of themselves.

“There’s really only three things we can do in order to get to tomorrow: Wear a mask, social distance, wash our hands. Those things are so simple, so easy if anybody cannot find it in themselves to practice those three very basic things – I just think shame on you,” People quoted Hanks, as saying.

Later in his message, the Academy Award-winning actor shared that people should do their part because it is necessary during these difficult times.

“Don’t be a p----, get on with it, do your part. It is very basic. If you are driving a car, you do not go too fast, you use your turn signal and you avoid hitting pedestrians. My Lord, it is common sense,” Hanks added.

Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were the first Hollywood celebrities to test positive for COVID-19. In March, the couple confirmed the news on social media and noted that they contracted the virus in Australia. Taking it to Twitter, the 63-year-old actor shared a personal update and revealed that they were feeling a bit tired for quite a while and experienced a lot of “body aches” while traveling Down Under.

The actor further stated that the body aches became worse and his wife, Rita, suffered from fever. They checked into a medical facility and were tested “positive” for COVID-19.

As far as the disease is concerned, new virus cases have skyrocketed 80% over the past two weeks, according to the New York Times database. Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told senators he would not be surprised if the U.S. begins to see new cases hitting 100,000 a day, given current trends. He also said he cannot accurately predict the number of cases and deaths in the U.S. before the pandemic is over.
