With 2018 coming to an end soon, it is time to take a look at which films were the worst so far, according to the critics. There were many great movies that were released this year, but among them there were those that just didn’t work.

“Gotti” stars John Travolta, who plays the head of the Gambino crime family. According to Variety, the film went a little too far in trying to look authentic. The film shows the crime boss to be a great father, while showing the authorities as being too tough on him. The film apparently feels like a “bad-taste hagiography” that glorifies a criminal.

“Life Itself” is another movie that many critics agree is one of the worst movies of 2018. Dan Fogelman is a favorite when it comes to the small screen, but his latest film didn’t measure up to what the audience expected. The characters he created in the film apparently feel like they are speaking the mind of the writer, rather than having a voice of their own.

Meanwhile, “The Happytime Murders” uses Muppets as characters, which is something that has been done before with good effect, but it didn’t work in this particular film. According to Time, the adolescent jokes in the film don’t serve anything, and the film doesn’t work despite that fact that the cast members include veterans like Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph.

“Venom” was a highly anticipated new take on superhero movies, a genre that has consistently been delivering box office hits over the past decade. However, according to ABC, the film felt like it was from the early 1990s, when the genre was stuck. The script was reportedly cliché, and the dialogues felt like “it may have been written by an alien.”

The main thrust of a superhero film is generally the special effects, which reportedly did not deliver in “Venom.” Despite the drawbacks, this film was able to make money at the box office and won fans across the globe. Hopefully, the same mistakes will not be repeated in a sequel.

Rounding up the list is “The Nun,” a horror flick that is a spin-off in the “Conjuring” universe. According to Rolling Stone, the film has recycled some of its scare tactics. What attracted viewers to watch this film in theaters is the chance to see the demon Valak (Bonnie Aarons). However, the clichés in the film didn’t make it an enjoyable experience.
