- The new movies may be different from what came before
After the success of “Bumblebee,” new “Transformers” movies are being developed. At least two new films are reportedly under development, and the franchise is looking at a big shakeup that should open the doors to many more movies in the future.
Sources close to Paramount Pictures told Variety that two new movies are currently being developed. The scripts are being written by James Vanderbilt and Joby Harold respectively for the two films.
“Bumblebee” appears to be successful experiment, earning $465 million at the box office. It was a coming-of-age story with a smaller robot compared to the previous movies, and the upcoming films will reportedly help create “multiple storylines” that the franchise can build on in the future.
Harold is known for co-writing the script of Zack Snyder’s film “Army of the Dead,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. He has also worked as a producer for movies like “John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” and “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.”
Vanderbilt is known for writing the script of the crime drama “Zodiac.” He has also written the script for movies like “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “White House Down,” and “Independence Day: Resurgence.”
According to Collider, one of the problems with the “Transformer” movies under Michael Bay was that there was too much focus on the action rather than the story and dialogues. The directors for the upcoming two movies haven’t been announced yet, but it remains to be seen of the films will move away from Bay’s style of filmmaking.
The new films will also give the writers an opportunity to build on the mythology of the robots that landed on earth from their alien planet. The films can now explore the vast space and different worlds and not be restricted to telling stories on earth.
The film can also experiment with new looks of the “Transformers,” both in terms of the robots and the cars. At the core of the story, there will also be the eternal fight between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
