The publication Christianity Today has once again publicly criticized President Donald Trump only days after an initial editorial called for his impeachment. In the new editorial, the magazine accused the President of “misuses of power” and called on readers to question their loyalties to his presidency.

“With profound love and respect,” said Timothy Dalrymple, the magazine’s president. “We ask our brothers and sisters in Christ to consider whether they have given to Caesar what belongs only to God: their unconditional loyalty.”

While praising Trump’s administration for its support of some of the magazine’s core ideals, the editorial said that nonetheless its abuses of power should not be ignored and denied. Dalrymple also said that the publication would be looking to start a “serious discussion about how our activity as Christians shapes our activity as citizens.”

Christianity Today has a physical circulation of 130,000 and draws 4.3 million readers on its website. Founded by Reverend Billy Graham in 1956, the magazine’s recent editorials have drawn criticism from many evangelical figures, including Graham’s son, Franklin.

Despite that pushback, the publication has seen an increase in subscriptions following the publication of the original editorial.

Still, some have questioned whether a traditional publication like Christianity Today can have a real impact on the current conversation.

“Like other traditional media, their platform has fragmented,” said Greg Carey, a New Testament professor at Pennsylvania’s Lancaster Seminary. “So I’m skeptical that they have the real punch to change a movement.”
