The internet went abuzz Thursday with rumors that estranged celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had a “secret meeting” in the recent times to hash out differences amid their tumultuous divorce that has been going on for the last two years. However, Gossip Cop has debunked the rumor, reporting the meeting never happened.

The rumor started with an Entertainment Tonight article, titled “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Have a 'Secret Meeting,' Call a Truce Two Years After Split,” which cited an anonymous source claiming that Jolie reached out to Pitt in order to “improve their co-parenting relationship.”

"Brad and Angelina actually set up a secret meeting at her house," the source said. "It’s the first time they have truly gotten together to make things work since their group therapy with the children. Brad and Angie’s meeting was a success. They are going to stay with the plan set forth through the courts."

“Angelina decided it was time to try to make things work and Brad was relieved and very ready for the offer. Brad has been dedicated to making peace throughout the process and now it finally seems like they are at a point where they can create a calmer situation for the kids,” the source added.

But why did the alleged meeting take place? According to the insider, it was Jolie’s idea and something she decided to do after seeing the ordeal the couple’s kids were being put through, as every detail of the divorce got dragged into the media spotlight.

“She started to see a change in the kids' behavior because they missed their dad," the source added. "The kids' reaction to the divorce actually helped Angie try a different tact."

The insider added that Pitt agreed to the meeting because he shared the “Maleficent” actress’ opinion.

“He wants this settled out of sight," the source said. “He knows this isn’t fair to the children. He’s saddened that they have to be a part of this [public fight].”

One of the major flaws with the source’s information was the fact that he or she never mentioned when the alleged meeting took place, choosing to keep the details vague and just saying it happened “recently.”

The so-called source also never disclosed what caused the reported meeting to be a success, except the fact that Pitt and Jolie are “going to stay with the plan set forth through the courts” — something that had been reported a bunch of times by various outlets over the days.

Gossip Cop also called out the “source” for his or her fluctuating narrative, calling Jolie “Angelina” first and then referring to her as “Angie” before going back to her original name. According to the gossip-busting site, insiders normally do not do that when they claim to be closely acquainted with a celebrity.

The publication also reached out to an insider close to Pitt who confirmed the “secret meeting” never took place.
