Princess Anne earned herself what seemed like a worldwide round of applause after she appeared to diss President Donald Trump. However, things aren't always as they seem.

In a video that surfaced of the reception Queen Elizabeth held at Buckingham Palace after the first day of the NATO Summit in London, Queen Elizabeth "warmly" greeted President Trump, according to the New York Post. The publication went on to report that "after a brief chat, the monarch catches her only daughter [Princess Anne]standing awkwardly at the doorway, having missed the official greeting line. The Queen looked over, clearly not amused — with Anne, 69, merely shrugging and trying to laugh off the awkward exchange."

Many believed that Anne was being scolded by her mother for not joining the greeting line, that is, until Valentine Low, a journalist with The Times, who attended the event, took to Twitter to explain what people had actually witnessed.

"OK, here goes... Princess Anne: the truth," the tweet began. "No, she didn't snub the Trumps. And she wasn't told off by the Queen."

"Instead the Queen, after greeting the Donald (and the Melania), turned to Anne to see who was next. But there wasn't anyone waiting: Trump was the last leader to be received by the Queen," Low continued. "Anne raised her hands in the air, laughed and said: 'It's just me, adding a moment later 'and this lot' as she pointed to the members of the household behind her."

While the original interpretation of this incident was a clear misunderstanding, it's likely a welcome change of pace from the controversial stories that have surrounded the British royal family during the last months of 2019.

Perhaps, 2019 won't end up being another "annus horribilis" for Queen Elizabeth after all, as was once suggested by royal correspondent Camilla Tominey.

"I think it’s kind of shaping up 2019 to be a second annus horribilis," Tominey revealed while on "This Morning." "The Queen’s already had to deal with this strange situation with being dragged into a constitutional crisis over Brexit. We’ve had all of the allegations concerning Prince Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted paedophile [sic]."

"And now we've got this," she said in reference to the news about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following the premiere of the ITV documentary, "Harry & Meghan: An African Journey."

Since then, Prince Andrew has stepped down from royal duties while the Sussex's have taken a six-week break.
