A prominent New Zealand TV presenter apologized Monday for calling Scottish singer, Susan Boyle, retarded on his show last month.

I am sorry that some people have taken what I said in a way that I never intended, said the presenter of state-owned Television New Zealand Monday.

In the broadcast Paul Henry offended Boyle as he quoted from a magazine and laughed as the magazine described the reason Boyle was retarded was due to being starved of oxygen at birth.

Here's the really interesting revelation: she is in fact retarded ... , Henry said while laughing.

And if you look at her carefully, you can make it out, he told viewers on his morning show.

He also laughed at the fact that she was ritualistically beaten at school
