Uma Thurman has criticized the Texas abortion law and revealed her "darkest secret" in an op-ed she recently wrote -- She had an abortion as a teen.

The 51-year-old actress penned a deeply personal piece for The Washington Post, in which she called the new law "discriminatory" and admitted to having the procedure in her late teen. She said she was opening up about her experience hoping "some light will shine through, reaching women and girls who might feel a shame that they can't protect themselves from and have no agency over."

According to the new Texas law, a woman can't have an abortion past six weeks of pregnancy. It also allows other citizens to sue not only abortion providers but also anyone who helps a woman get an abortion, including those who give financial help or a ride to the clinic, even Uber or Lyft drivers.

Any citizen can file a case, even those who are not related to the woman or the person they are suing. Moreover, the law has no exceptions for incest or rape cases. It is among the "most strict abortion bans in the nation," according to NPR.

"This law is yet another discriminatory tool against those who are economically disadvantaged, and often, indeed, against their partners," Thurman wrote further. "Women and children of wealthy families retain all the choices in the world, and face little risk."

The "Kill Bill" actress went on to explain that this law will make citizens go against each other and create new vigilantes.

"I am grief-stricken, as well, that the law pits citizen against citizen, creating new vigilantes who will prey on these disadvantaged women, denying them the choice not to have children they are not equipped to care for, or extinguishing their hopes for the future family they might choose," she explained.

She added that her decision to get an abortion when she was younger allowed her to have kids when she was really ready to become a parent.

"It has been my darkest secret until now," she said. "I am 51 years old, and I am sharing it with you from the home where I have raised my three children, who are my pride and joy."

Thurman has two children, 23-year-old Maya and 19-year-old Levon Roan, with her ex-husband actor Ethan Hawke. She also has a daughter, 9-year-old Luna, with her husband Arpad Busson.

On the work front, the actress will be next seen in the movie "Hollywood Stargirl," which is under post-production. She is currently filming the TV series "Suspicion."
