KEY POINTS

  • "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" to release on Sept. 24
  • The movie was supposed to release with “The Boss Baby: Family Business”
  • It will release in 3D on big screens with 25% capacity in Los Angeles

The release date of Marvel Universe's upcoming superhero movie "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" has been pushed to Sept. 24.

Earlier the action-adventure movie was slated to release on Sept. 17. This is not the first time the movie has been pushed further than the scheduled date. Previously, the movie was supposed to release on June 25, but due to COVID-19, the Tom Hardy-starrer got delayed, Variety reported.

The recent one-week delay means the "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" won't premiere alongside "Death of the Nile" and the animated movie "The Boss Baby: Family Business." Instead, the movie will premiere along with "The Many Saints of Newark," which is a prequel to "The Sopranos" and musical drama "Dear Evan Hansen."

Considering the box-office, this delay won't hamper "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" as there is ample time between other upcoming big releases such as James Gunn helmed "The Suicide Squad" and sci-fi adventure "Dune" directed by Denis Villeneuve, Variety reported.

The upcoming movie is the second installment of "Venom," which was released in 2018 and directed by Andy Serkis. Hardy will reprise Venom's character, a role in which he first appeared in a "Spider-Man" movie.

The anti-superhero movie turned out to be a hit in the box office, earning $855 million globally. The upcoming installment also stars Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, and Reid Scott in key roles while Kelly Marcel penned the screenplay.

The movie is set to release in IMAX and large format scenes in 3D. While theaters have been shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the ease of restrictions, Los Angeles and New York theaters will reopen soon.

Los Angeles marked the first show two weeks ago as it was allowed to reopen with 100 people or 25% capacity, whichever was less along with safety measures, Deadline reported.

"Venom" is not the only Marvel movie treating fans this year, "The Eternals" directed by Chloé Zhao is slated for Nov. 4. The movie stars Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Angelina Jolie in key roles.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Widow" are also expected to release this year.
