  • The video was shared on Twitter and got more than 200,000 views
  • Commenters were amused by the video, but others called out the government
  • India's wetlands are under constant threat of extinction

A recent video showing a buffalo using its horns to pump water from a tube well has seemingly convinced netizens that intelligence is as much an animal trait as it is human.

The video, which was shared by Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Dipanshu Kabra on Twitter, shot to viral fame, garnering over 200,000 views as of Wednesday. Kabra wrote a Hindi idiom, which roughly translated as "brain outshines physical strength" for the video's caption. Well, in the case of this buffalo, it actually demonstrated the use of both brain and brawn.

It's not known where exactly in the country was the video shot.

The video amused a lot of Twitter users who flooded the comments section with funny remarks.

"Can't comment on that Sir. But it seems to be a perfect example of Aatma Nirbharta, self-dependence," one user wrote.

Another comment said, "Conditions and situations make anything possible."

"In this case, both..." wrote another user, referring to the animal's use of both brains and physical strength. "Talented Buffalo," said another.

Meanwhile, some users took the video on a more serious note, slamming the government for depriving animals of natural wetlands.

"This is not the q(uestion) rather..why natural or artificial wetlands are (not) available to them..why do they need to do this sh*t.." the comment read. Another user replied to this comment saying, "Such a pathetic condition of handpump ... This is how rural India survives .... Need much more improvement.. sir."

India has a total number of 27,403 wetlands that are under constant threat of extinction due to overfishing, agriculture, deforestation, introduced species, climate change, water drainage, land encroachment and urban development.

The government is making efforts to protect the country's wetlands, which are the major proponents of agricultural development and the preservation of wildlife. Apart from protecting the existing wetlands, leading conservation bodies are in the process of setting up artificial ones.

A few days ago, a similar video featuring a baby elephant using its trunk to pump water went viral on social media. The video, recorded in Jaldapara in the Indian state of West Bengal, broke the internet with the animal's heartwarming gesture. The elephant was reported to be only 9 months old.
