Authorities in Washington state are currently investigating the death of a 19-year-old university student that was found deceased at a fraternity house near the main campus.

The male student was found at the Alpha Tau Omega house in Pullman on Tuesday at 8.30 a.m after other fraternity members reported he was unresponsive.

Other students proceeded to give him CPR, but the first responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigations are already implying the cause of death could have been alcohol-related, though the Whitman County Coroner’s office is yet to confirm the cause of death.

The name and hometown of the student have yet to be released at this time. However, the fraternity issued a condolence message.

It claimed Alpha Tau Omega mourns the death of their member who passed away. It also said the chapter was working with local authorities and campus administrators in the investigation.

Jake Opgenorth, the operations commander for the Pullman police, told local media outlets their responsibility was to ascertain whether there was alcohol involved or any form of hazing rituals.

The university also released a statement giving its deepest condolences to everyone affected by the death of one of their students.

WSU counselors and student affairs staff have already been dispatched to the ones most closely affected by the tragic death of the student.

The university added in response to the situation, all sororities and fraternities within the WSU community self-imposed an immediate suspension on the social events for the remainder of the calendar.

Unfortunately, it is not the first death that has occurred this week, though, on a national scale. Dylan Hernandez, also 19 from San Diego University, died on Friday a few days after an incident at a fraternity.

His death was determined as an accident by the university, though the cause was blunt force injuries to his head after he returned to his room.

A roommate returned him to his bed but found him dead the next morning. The toxicology results on the case are still pending though the assumption is there was alcohol involved.

On Monday, another student was found dead in his room at the Greek Leadership Village at Arizona State University. In this case, the police do not suspect foul play. However, officials have not released a cause of death as yet.

The precedent set is worrying, especially considering the history of fraternities and student injuries and deaths.
