There will be another trailer for “Westworld” Season 2 before it airs this April. HBO

People were wowed with the “Westworld” Season 2 90-second Super Bowl ad, since it showcased some intense scenes and incredible graphics.

But as far as show creator Jonathan Nolan is concerned, the ad wasn’t really a trailer, so they plan to create one before the sophomore season airs this April.

“We’ll do a proper trailer later in the year,” Nolan told Entertainment Weekly. “This was very much conceived as a Super Bowl spot. HBO came to us and said they wanted to do it… and we were incredibly excited. The show has been off the air [since 2016], longer than normal for a TV show and we wanted to create a love letter to Super Bowl spots in general.”

Talking about the ad, Nolan said, “I wanted it to feel like one of these beautifully crafted love letters you get in the Super Bowl. Something that gives you a sense of what the park was supposed to feel like — this idyllic dream of the pastoral and idealized West that Americans get sold during the Super Bowl ads, and then pull the rug out and remind the audience what they’re really watching.”

Nolan and his wife, Lisa Joy, really outdid themselves with the second season. Even James Marsden, who plays host Teddy Flood, begged with fans not to seek out any spoilers because half of the fun of the show is to watch it as it unfolds.

“The more that’s kept a secret, the more reward the audience is going to have when they watch it,” he said. “The best way to watch this show is to let it come to you, and that’s the most rewarding experience and the most rewarding way to watch it. Let it unfold in its own time. But the fans will be very pleased.”

His co-star, Evan Rachel Wood, who plays host Dolores Abernathy, said the same thing. “You are really, really in for it,” she shared when she appeared at TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto, Canada. “I had no idea, I thought, ‘God where are they gonna go from here, how are they gonna top this?’ — first five minutes of the first episode, [I thought,] ‘Oh, they’ve done it!’”

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres on April 22 on HBO.
