“This Is Us” usually comes back every September, around the time of the Pearsons’ birthday. However, Season 4 is unlikely to start airing in the fall due to the pandemic, but will filming be delayed until January?

Star Jon Huertas, who plays Miguel Rivas, revealed that “This Is Us” isn’t expected to start filming again in the summer, as it usually does. Creator Dan Fogelman told the actor that, at best, they’ll start filming in September, but it’s possible they won’t shoot until January.

“I was just on the phone with Dan Fogelman, and we were talking about [how] we may not go into production until January depending on whether or not there’s a second wave,” Huertas revealed during a panel with California Governor Gavin Newsome and others in the film and TV industry.

Huertas took to Twitter to clarify that he was talking about a hypothetical scenario if there is a second wave of COVID-19. He noted that the writers are penning scripts for Season 4, and “This Is Us” is currently set to return to filming in the fall. He said they’re “raring [to] go.”

Also in the panel, Huertas said that the “daunting” protocols are a concern, especially since they can’t exactly work social distancing and personal protective equipment into every storyline. “Emotionally, of course, we all want to get back to work,” Huertas said, according to Deadline. “But also, the actor is going to be the least protected person on set. We can’t film with PPE on.”

The actor believes that after the government releases recommendations for how film sets can start working, NBC or the “This Is Us” set will likely add their own regulations to make sure employees are safe.

In the meantime, the “This Is Us” cast is trying to stay busy with projects they can do from home. Rebecca actress Mandy Moore plays weekly concerts with husband Taylors Goldsmith on Instagram Live. She’ll also co-host NBC’s Red Nose Day special with Kevin actor Justin Hartley on Thursday.
