One of America's most recognizable comedy stars, Adam Sandler, was the guest on Tuesday night's episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. During the sitdown, the longtime actor discussed his latest project and the Oscar buzz surrounding it.

Sandler can next been seen in the crime thriller movie, “Uncut Gems”. In it, he plays Howard Ratner "a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win,” according to the synopsis on IMDb.

“Uncut Gems” was directed by the Safdie brothers, Josh and Benny. The movie already has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A top critic on the site said of the title: "The film goes deeper than the brothers ever have into a genuine affection for their various schemers, and that makes all the difference."

E! Online reports that the movie is already receiving Oscar buzz, something that Sandler has wanted since he started his career.

When asked by host Jimmy Fallon asked Sandler if he ever thought he would get Oscar buzz, Sandler laughed and said "no." “I think when I was young, I thought ‘Billy Madison’ or something had a shot,” he replied to the late-night host. “But they took that away from me so, I stopped dreaming.”

Later in the interview, Fallon told the audience that he was supposed to see the movie with Lorne Michaels but was ditched. Instead, he watched it with the star himself, Sandler.

“I saw his little heartbroken eyes,” Sandler jokingly said before admitting that Fallon was the best person to see the movie with. “If you sit next to Jimmy and you have a movie coming out, he is the proper man to make you think that you did a great job.”

“Uncut Gems” will be in theaters on Dec. 13.
