“Gilmore Girls”
Is Jess (Milo Ventimiglia), Logan (Matt Czuchry), Dean (Jared Padalecki) or someone else the father of Rory’s baby on “Gilmore Girls”? Netflix

There’s a “Gilmore Girls” baby on the way and viewers are dying to know who the father is. Rory announced her pregnancy in the final moments of the fourth episode of the Netflix revival. She gave no clues about who the father may be, which gave way to fan theories galore.

Many “Gilmore Girls” fans speculate the baby is Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Jess’ (Milo Ventimiglia). The two reconnected in the revival, but never for more than a few moments. Ventimiglia, who went on to star in NBC’s “This is Us” after his return to Stars Hollow, is setting the record straight about the paternity of Rory’s baby.

“No, it is not Jess’ baby,” he said, disappointing the crowd at a BUILD Series event in New York City on Thursday. “I know. I feel like everybody’s like, ‘But what if he came out with a pompadour, a leather jacket and a smart brain?’ Then maybe it would be.”

If Jess isn’t the father, which “Gilmore Girls” guy is? During the revival Rory was dating a mystery man named Paul, sleeping with Logan (Matt Czuchry) and had a one night stand with a Wookie. It seems most likely, based on the timing, that the baby belongs to Logan, whom Rory broke up with in episode 3.

Rory and Logan may not live happily ever after, but that’s exactly the ending creator Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted for them. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she and Bledel compared Rory and Logan to Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Christopher (David Sutcliffe). Both agree, the “Gilmore Girls” duo are perfect for each other at a point, but don’t stand a chance in the long run.

“We wanted Rory to date her father,” she told EW. “Every girl has a father issue, and Logan was Christopher. Logan was charming, smart, and not quite the dependable soul that you need. Or, at that time, was not the great dependable soul.”

There’s a scene in the “Gilmore Girls” revival that solidifies Logan as a modern day Christopher — and most probably overlooked it. Before announcing her pregnancy, Rory visits her dad at work. The two discuss Lorelai’s decision to raise Rory on her own and it’s clear that Rory’s on her mom’s side.

Is this a sign that Rory plans to raise her son or daughter alone? “Gilmore Girls” fans may never know.
