Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have finished the last of their royal duties on Monday and while this signifies the beginning of something new for the couple, onlookers seem stuck in the past analyzing what exactly prompted their decision to step away.

Most reports claim that the media and criticism that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were facing was the main cause but now a new theory has emerged -- one that involves the future Queen of England, Kate Middleton.

Victoria Mather, who was incorrectly identified as a Vanity Fair royal watcher while being employed for a digital news platform known as Air Mail, appeared on MSNBC to reveal her thoughts.

Mather's conclusion was that Meghan left because she was unhappy. Why was she unhappy? Because she didn't want to live in anyone's shadow, specifically the Duchess of Cambridge's.

"I don't think Meghan Markle wanted to spend the rest of her life looking at Kate Middleton's back as she sat in the second row to the future queen," Mather said, as reported by CCN. "I don't think she wanted - she didn't want to be second best."

It's not the most surprising thing to hear given that there was, and still is, an on-going rumor that Meghan and Kate don't exactly get along. There are even recent reports that Kate subtly shaded the mother of one during a recent visit to Ireland.

While meeting with the country's President Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina, Kate shrugged off a comment about the recent changes among the British royal family.

"Delighted to welcome you," Sabina told Kate. "You've had lots of exciting things happening in your family."

Later it was reported that "the comment clearly didn't worry Kate too much, who was seen smiling and laughing for the cameras."
