Queen Elizabeth II invited Meghan Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, to celebrate Christmas with the royal family in Sandringham.

However, Her Majesty has not extended the same privilege to Kate Middleton’s family, and there could be a reason why this is so.

Kathryn Knight, a journalist for Express, the Queen previously invited the Duchess of Cambridge’s family for the holidays in 2016. However, it has also been a practice among the Middleton clan to celebrate the occasion in their hometown of Berkshire. This means that Prince William, Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will go to the Middleton household on Christmas Day.

In the past, Prince William and Middleton also celebrated Christmas in Anmer Hall in Norfolk, but the Duchess’ parents didn’t join them at that time.

The Queen simply broke royal tradition for Markle and her mom since the Duchess of Sussex only has Ragland as an immediate member of her family. Markle is not in good terms with her dad’s side of the family so it is unlikely that they will be invited to celebrate Christmas with Her Majesty.

A palace insider told the journalist that the Queen’s decision to invite Ragland is her way of showing Markle that she respects her.

“It’s a mark of the Queen’s respect for Meghan and an acknowledgment that she doesn’t have any other relations in this country – unlike Kate who has the support of a very close family,” the source said.

In related news, Middleton’s brother, James, recently hinted on their family’s plans for Christmas. Other than celebrating the holiday with the newest additions to their family, he also said that they will have turkey, champagne, and wine.

“I welcome people into our family home. I want it to feel like it’s their home. For me, it’s all about family. It’s one where we can all regroup,” he told German TV channel Leute Heute.
