Selena Gomez has been one of the few celebrities who never did shy away from opening up about her personal life. From being truthful about her relationships to her struggles with mental health, Gomez has always given insights into her personal life in a dignified manner.

But if you believe that she has always been like that, then you are wrong. While making an appearance in the new edition of Interview magazine, the 27-year-old musician revealed that she decided to open up about her personal life when she saw that people were taking away her narrative by making false claims.

The interview was conducted by Amy Schumer and when she asked what motivated Gomez to open up about her life, the “Lose You To Love Me” hitmaker noted that she never wanted to be a “tabloid” and knew that she had to come out to share her narrative so that people could learn about the real truth.

Gomez also criticized the media for showing things in a bad light.

“The way the media has sometimes tried to explain things has made it sound really bad when in reality there is nothing wrong with the fact that I needed to away or that I fell in love. I had to start opening up because people were taking away my narrative and it was killing me. I am so young and I am going to keep changing, and no one has the right to tell me how my life is going,” Gomez said.

Later in the interview, the “Good For You” singer noted that her personal life really affected her professional life when she was super young. The acclaimed singer also admitted that she has gone through some really tough moments and was scared that it would affect her career.

“I have gone through some really difficult stuff. That was scary because I did not want it to affect my career. It got out of control when I was super young. I think it showed people that I was weak in certain moments . Some people just get off on building people up and then trying to bring them down,” Gomez said.

Recently, Gomez announced that she will be helping the people who have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis. She added she will be donating $1 for every order of the “Rare” Deluxe Edition through her store.

“I am personally donating to the Plus 1 COVID-19 relief fund as well as donating $1 of every order in my official store to the fund starting now. Rare (Deluxe), featuring 'Boyfriend' is out April 9th,” Gomez said.
