As fans look ahead to tonight’s Season 6 finale of “The 100,” it’s hard not to also look further ahead into the show’s future and to wonder if it’ll be back for another season.

Luckily, The CW made its decision about canceling or renewing the show for Season 7 a few months ago.

Back in April, network president Mark Pedowitz revealed that “The 100” had been renewed and would be back for the 2019-20 season. A few other CW shows were renewed at the same time, with some others already having been renewed back in January, bringing the grand total of renewals to 14 shows.

“As we begin to plan for the 2019-2020 season, we’re thrilled to have this roster of 14 exceptionally creative and distinctive series, including all five first year shows, as the foundation on which to continue to build the multiplatform future of The CW,” Pedowitz said in a press release at the time. “One of our key long-term goals has been to continually add more original programming all year round, especially in midseason and summer, and with these returning shows and the new series we’ll order as we get closer to the May upfront, next season on The CW is shaping up to be our most robust year round schedule yet.”

Although fans have one more season to look forward to, it’ll also be the last season of the show they have to look forward to. Creator Jason Rothenberg made the announcement on Sunday.

“With #The100 Season 6 finale just days away, I have some bittersweet news to share: Season 7 will be our last,” he wrote on Twitter. “We are eternally grateful to WB & CW for always allowing us to tell our story the way we want to & to wrap the show on our terms. What an incredible ride this has been!”

He didn’t outright reveal the episode count for the final season, but Rothenberg did say, “100 episodes of #the100. How perfect is that?”

As tonight’s finale is number 84 of the series, it would take a 16-episode Season 7 to bring the show to a close at number 100. That would be the most episodes in a season since Season 3, which also had 16 episodes.

While an exact release date for episode 1 of Season 7 has not yet been announced, the show is once again being held until midseason, which means it’ll likely premiere at some point between January and April 2020.

Until then, enjoy the Season 6 finale on Tuesday on The CW at 9 p.m. EDT.
