Two people were killed and one injured after two boats collided on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, New Hampshire. The incident took place Saturday night.

The Hampshire police’s marine patrol was informed about the boating accident on the north side of Bear Island at about 6:11 p.m. EST. First responders found a man dead and a woman with head injuries in it, a 2011 Sea Ray Sport boat. She was transported to Lake Region General Hospital in Laconia for treatment. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The officials first thought the accident was a single-boat crash, however, on further investigation, they determined another boat was also involved. Divers found the boat submerged in more than 40 feet of water and recovered the dead body of a male Sunday.

“We had some debris that was located, and as a result of that, we were able to match that up with a boat that was reported missing, also from the Bear Island area,” said Joshua Dirth, state police marine patrol officer.

All three people involved in the crash were confirmed to be residents of Bear Island. The incident was under investigation and the details of the three were withheld by authorities until their families were notified.

Meanwhile, the Marine Patrol has requested anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have heard anything on the water in the area of Bear, Pine or Three Mile islands, to contact its headquarters.
