Activision and Sledgehammer Games have announced the first community event for “Call of Duty: WW2” called Winter Siege. The event begins tomorrow, Dec. 8, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC and will last until Jan 2, 2018.

One of the first changes that all “Call of Duty: WW2” players should expect during the Winter Siege event is the new winter-themed version of the Carentan multiplayer map. The snow-covered version of this map was previously only available to players who bought the Season Pass. With the Winter Siege, everyone will be able to play the winter version of the Carentan map.

“One of the first stops will be Carentan, France. Carentan is in the grip of a snow storm, and under siege by a counterinsurgent German Wehrmacht force,” Sledgehammer Games said. “It will require all your training to liberate this important port city and a major crossroad for the Allied operations. Winter Carentan will be free for all players starting on Friday throughout the Winter Siege event.”

Headquarters for “Call of Duty: WW2” will also be receiving a revamp during the Winter Siege event. Additionally, Captain Butcher, a new quartermaster, will be visiting Headquarters and and he will be bringing along some new Supply Drops that are full of new gear that’s perfect for the cold weather, according to GameSpot.

For the second week of the Winter Siege event, “Call of Duty: WW2” will bring back the Gun Game mode for a limited time. Gun Game will be available in the 2XP playlist from Dec. 15 to Dec. 21. Gun Game will also be part of the Winter Carentan moshpit playlist from Dec. 29 to Jan. 2.

The Winter Siege event for “Call of Duty: WW2” also brings in new weapons that can be earned by completing new Special Orders from Major Howard. Orders will be rotated daily so that players will also be able to unlock different variants of the weapons that they’ve already earned.

Some of the rare weapon variants are available to earn through Collection Bounties or through Winter Siege Supply Drops. Winter Siege Supply Drops can be earned by simply playing online multiplayer modes for the duration of the Winter Siege event and by logging in weekly. These Drops can also be bought using Call of Duty Points.

The new weapon variants for “Call of Duty: WW2” are available for the Gewehr 43 rifle, the GPMG LMG, the Sten SMG. For melee weapons, the Trench Knife and Ice Pick will also be getting their own winter variants. The new weapons can only be obtained until Jan. 2, 2018.

The beginning of the Winter Siege event will also introduce some bug fixes to the game. Sledgehammer Games said that the update will fix various issues that are plaguing multiplayer, ranked play and Zombies Mode on the console version of “Call of Duty: WW2.”

For the PC update, Sledgehammer says that it’s already finalizing it and it will go live to all players on Friday, Dec. 8, at 10AM PST. “This update addresses some of the top observed community feedback on Steam and Reddit, and will activate PC Ranked Play – Season 1: The Placement Season. In addition, we’re activating the enhanced Emblem Editor feature and adding various fixes to improve Discord support,” the developer said.
