A woman and child were found dead inside a home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.

The police said a relative may have found the bodies in the home on Skyline Road on Wednesday morning and called 911. Officers arrived around 8:30 a.m. and found the two victims with gunshot wounds, WISH reported.

"It is uncertain at this time the details of what occurred. This investigation is fluid and all leads are being followed," Fort Wayne police said in a statement.

The identities of the two victims have been released, 21Alive reported. The exact cause of death for both is yet to be determined.

Neighbors and residents in the area witnessed the two bodies being taken out of the home just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Some neighbors described the deceased mother as one of the nicest and best people they knew.

"It's an unexplainable grief being felt right now," State Representative Martin Carbaugh (81st Dist.) who lives next door to where the bodies were found, told WANE 15.

"I've known our neighbor since I was 5 years old. Her dad was my basketball coach in eighth grade. We'd go to church with them," Carbaugh continued. "We're very close. Our kids spent a lot of time over there with their son, and they've really been, kind of, an extended part of the family. Their oldest son graduated with my oldest daughter from Concordia, grade school and high school, and then their youngest son was very close with my kids – like an extended brother."

Carbaugh said he had a hard time focusing after hearing the news.

"My wife and I have talked about having to tell the kids now once they get out of school, and that's probably the most difficult thing in the immediate present, to figure out what to do and what to say," Carbaugh told the outlet.

A similar incident was reported in Iowa last month after a mother and daughter were found fatally shot inside their home in Des Moines. Officials identified the suspect as the daughter's estranged boyfriend, who was later found in a nearby park with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
