A woman's body was found inside a closet in a Tennessee apartment.

Dwayne Herrelle Jr., the victim's 28-year-old ex-boyfriend, was arrested in connection with the death of the woman, who appeared to have been fatally stabbed.

Officers were at Herrelle's apartment in Nashville when they found the victim's body at 865 Bellevue Apartments, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said Sunday.

The deceased woman was identified as Herrelle's ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Irene Torres. She was found inside a closet with what appeared to be stab wounds, according to NewsChannel 5 Nashville.

It is believed Torres was murdered at another location somewhere in Old Hickory before her body was brought to Bellevue in a vehicle, officials said. The circumstances that led to officers arriving at Herrelle's apartment were not immediately clear. A possible motive behind the killing was also not revealed.

Herelle was arrested following the grim discovery and is charged with criminal homicide.

"Dwayne Herelle Jr., 28, has just been charged with criminal homicide for the stabbing murder of his ex-girlfriend, Irene Torres, 24," police wrote on Twitter. "Torres was found dead inside Herelle's closet at 865 Bellevue Apartments. It appears she was killed in Old Hickory and her body driven to Bellevue."

Several people commented on the police department's tweet about Torres's body being found in the closet, WKRN reported.

"I saw all the police/ambulances and everything this morning and then finding this tweet has made me feel very uneasy living in this apartment complex, in the building RIGHT across from his," one user tweeted. Another wrote, "This was the final straw. I live next to Belleview apartments. Going to look in a different area tomorrow. You've let this neighborhood go to hell."

"This man murdered an innocent women [sic] she was full of life and just a great person. I hope he rots in jail he's a coward," wrote another Twitter user.

An unrelated incident was reported in November last year after a man shot his ex-girlfriend and killed her new lover in a Florida apartment. Jose Aranibar-Camacho, 41, told officers he was infuriated with his ex-girlfriend's new relationship and claimed he thought he was "going to take the male victim's soul."

Aranibar-Camacho was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and child neglect following the incident.
