  • Zoe Sadler sought help after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis

A 25-year-old woman in the U.K. who lived on a diet of potato chip sandwiches ever since she was 2 years old, was hypnotized into eating her first proper meal as an adult.

Zoe Sadler ate 2 packets of Walkers potato chips sandwiched between slices of bread each day for the last 23 years, because other foods left her feeling physically sick. However, after learning that she had Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disorder that affects the brain and nervous system, Sadler approached a hypnotist, David Kilmurry, to help kick her unhealthy eating habits and switch to a balanced diet, Wales Online reported.

"I was diagnosed with MS and I just thought, I need to get healthier and feel better. I looked around on the internet and read some articles where David had helped other fussy eaters so contacted him," Sadler told the outlet.

Kilmurry shared in a Facebook post that apart from MS, Zoe has an additional condition called Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), which may explain her affinity to nothing but cheese and onion flavored potato chips on buttered white bread when it comes to eating.

ARFID is a food phobia that limits the person's choices and leaves them wanting the same kind of food, cooked or packaged, every day.

Sadler revealed that as a child, she refused to eat anything but the sandwiches and even carried them in her lunchbox to school. "My mum and dad say I tried other foods as a toddler but I always turned my nose up or refused to put them in my mouth," she told Wales Online. "Apparently the only thing mum could get down me were crisps which I used to suck until they were soft."

While potato chip sandwiches were her go-to, Sadler added that she typically had a bowl of cereal for breakfast and switched back to her preferred meal for lunch and dinner. "I usually had a bowl of dry cereal for breakfast and then a crisp sandwich for lunch and another one for dinner. Sometimes I'd try other flavor crisps because the texture wouldn't bother me."

The young woman admits that she always dreaded Christmas as she never wanted to eat the food on offer, according to Coventry Telegraph.

Sadler finally got her first taste of veggies and fruits after undergoing hypnotherapy sessions with Kilmurry. She can now eat strawberries and Wagamama chili squid thanks to Kilmurry.

"We had two two-hour sessions which felt like they lasted five minutes each and after the second one, I was able to try loads of different foods. I can't believe how nice strawberries are and I even tried a Wagamama chili squid which was really spicy," Sadler told Wales Online.

The woman went on to share that she now feels relieved that she doesn't have to eat sandwiches on her wedding day in 2023, and is quite looking forward to planning the menu with her fiance, Jason.

Kilmurry shared on Facebook that Sadler has so far tried cabbages, blueberries, nuts, and cranberries and that she's also thrilled to try dishes like curry from cuisines she had not tried before. He wrote, "Straight after hypnotism in the chair, Zoe was open to trying new fruits and vegetables including cabbage, blueberries and left with a pot of nuts, cranberry’s and several other foods which she excitedly ate.

"Currently Zoe has built a set of new safe foods and has the full ability to try foods without the stress, optimistically and it has only taken One hypnotism to do this!"
