She is lying unconscious in the hospital with her life at stake after a hit-and-run car accident, and now, with no real answers, everyone will begin to wonder just who is responsible for the incident that could kill Nikki Newman on the Wednesday, Dec. 19 episode of “The Young and the Restless.”

Everyone was stunned when news broke that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) had been hit by a car on the CBS soap, and since then, several of her loved ones have been gathered at the hospital and waiting for news on if she would make it. However, what her children, Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) don’t know is that one of their own is actually the one who hit her, albeit unknowingly and without malice. Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) was the one driving the car during the snowstorm, after trying to get Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) home when he was drinking, and he wound up hitting his grandmother when he couldn’t see out the window. However, it doesn’t look like they’ll be learning the truth anytime soon.

“Reed and Charlie cover their tracks,” spoilers for “Y&R” tease.

There is some irony to Reed being the one to hit Nikki though, even if he doesn’t know it yet. He swore he would take down whoever was responsible for his father, JT’s (Thad Luckinbill), murder, and he actually wound up hitting the person who committed the crime and covered it up. The fact that she killed JT and someone was clearly trying to warn her and the other women involved in the cover-up will be fresh on their minds, however, as they begin to worry that this was no accident.

“Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) fears for her safety,” the spoilers reveal.

Now, with no real answers about the case, everyone will be living in fear, as they wonder if their own lives are also at stake while waiting to see if Nikki will make it through this horrifying situation.

“The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
