A cameo from gaming YouTube personality JonTron has been removed from the upcoming platformer Yooka-Laylee over controversial comments he made regarding Mexican immigrants and race, according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz.

In 2015, JonTron, whose real name is Jon Jafari, was invited to voice a secondary character in Yooka-Laylee. The platformer comes from developer Playtonic and is a spiritual successor to Nintendo 64 games like the Banjo-Kazooie series.

Many of Playtonic’s staffers came from developer Rare, who was the original creator of Banjo-Kazooie and other classic Nintendo third-party platformers. The title was also supported via a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $2.6 million.

The controversy involving Jafari started over Twitter and a live stream earlier this month. Jafari, among other statements, contended Mexican immigrants wanted to annex parts of the U.S. back into Mexico and compared immigration trends in the U.S. to South Africa under apartheid.

In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz , Playtonic said Jafari’s voice cameo was done after the game was finished and it will be removed via a content update:

“We would like to make absolutely clear that we do not endorse or support JonTron's personal viewpoints and that, as an external fan contributor, he does not represent Playtonic in any capacity. Playtonic is a studio that celebrates diversity in all forms and strives to make games that everyone can enjoy. As such, we deeply regret any implied association that could make players feel anything but 100% comfortable in our game worlds, or distract from the incredible goodwill and love shown by our fans and Kickstarter backers."
