  • She believes her "Tropic Thunder" co-star showers regularly because he "smelled delicious"

Yvette Nicole Brown, a self-confessed fan of Matthew McConaughey, once got a good whiff of the actor and liked what she smelled.

The 51-year-old Oscar-winning actor's personal grooming habits have long been a cause for concern among his fans after he told People in 2005 that he hadn't "worn deodorant in 20 years." Brown, who worked with McConaughey in the 2008 movie "Tropic Thunder," said in a new interview that she was among those who got curious about what he actually smelled like.

"I remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didn't have an odor," Brown said on SiriusXM's "The Jess Cagle Show" Wednesday. "So my first thought was, 'I'm going to get as close as I can to him to see if he's right.'"

Brown wasn't disappointed with what she'd found. "He does not have an odor," the "Community" star explained. "He smells like granola and good living. He has a sweet, sweet scent. That is just him and it's not musty or crazy."

Brown added that she has little doubt McConaughey bathes regularly — unlike other celebrities and their children who do not feel the need to wash themselves daily.

"I believe he bathes because he smelled delicious. He just didn’t have deodorant on," the actress shared. "Those that don’t bathe, I don’t understand. I got to get under some water and rub some soap on me."

Unlike Brown, however, McConaughey's "Fool's Gold" co-star Kate Hudson was not as open when it came to his decision not to wear deodorant and cologne. When filming their 2008 movie, the "Dallas Buyers Club" star said Hudson always brought a salt rock to set to try to persuade him to use it as a "natural deodorant."

"[Kate] says, ‘Would you please put this on?’ I just never wore it. No cologne, no deodorant," McConaughey told Playboy in 2008. "The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, ‘Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man, and, two, smells like you."

In the past weeks, several celebrities have revealed that not bathing regularly is the norm in their households. Dax Shepard and his wife Kristen Bell shared on "The View" earlier this month that they wait for the "stink" to tell them that it's time to get their daughters Delta, 6, and Lincoln, 8, into the shower.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis had similar habits when it came to bathing their daughter Wyatt Isabelle, 6, and son Dimitri Portwood, 4.

"Now, here's the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there's no point," Kutcher said on Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast last month.

Jake Gyllenhaal shared his own showering habits in an interview with Vanity Fair, telling the outlet that he finds "bathing to be less necessary, at times," and that people "naturally clean ourselves."
