Ruben Fleischer has jokingly talked about the possible third installment of the popular zombie comedy action franchise "Zombieland," noting that it might be set in 2029.

"When we were making Zombieland 2 it was a running joke among us all that, 'We got to do this again in another 10 years and see where it's evolved to,'" Fleischer told ScreenRant on Tuesday. "We'll see come 2029 if that's something we're still thinking about. But I would be so thrilled to get the gang back together and see where their lives have led in the last 10 years."

The first installment of the franchise dropped in 2009, while its second installment, "Zombieland Double Tap," was released a decade later.

Referring to the 10-year gap between the two installments, the 47-year-old director noted that "we'll see come 2029 if that's something we're still thinking about. But I would be so thrilled to get the gang back together and see where their lives have led in the last 10 years."

"Zombieland" revolves around a college student named Columbus who joins three strangers to save himself from a zombie apocalypse. It stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone and Bill Murray.

"Zombieland Double Tap," on the other hand, follows a mission in which the same characters deal with evolved zombies while also struggling with their personal lives. In addition to the main cast, the movie also features Thomas Middleditch and Luke Wilson.

Earlier this month, Fleischer shared his excitement for the crossover between Tom Hardy's Venom and Tom Holland's Spider-Man.

"It would be honestly a dream come true to have those two worlds converge," he told Cinemablend. "It'll be a formidable battle between those two characters, so… whether or not I direct it, I'll certainly be excited to see it."

On the work front, Fleischer completed filming the highly-anticipated action movie "Uncharted," which is based on a video game of the same title. The flick stars Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Antonio Banderas and Patricia Meeden. It is slated for release on Feb. 18. Fleischer will also direct the comedy movie "The Regional Office Is Under Attack," which is expected to release this year.

On top of his directorial ventures, Fleischer will also produce a TV series titled "The White House Plumbers," which is expected to arrive on HBO Max this year.
