Zooey Deschanel remained calm and steady for her rendition of the national anthem on Sunday night.

In front of thousands of spectators in Arlington, Texas, and millions more at home, the 31-year-old indie pop singer honored the nation for Game 4 of the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers.

While Deschanel got off to a shaky and slow start to the Star Spangled Banner, the singer carried the anthem all the way through - and hit all the right notes and words.

Deschanel is the latest star to deliver the national anthem for this year's World Series. Game 1 on Oct. 19 was opened by American Idol star Scotty McCreery, who had an embarrassing start to his performance.

After restarting his anthem because of microphone troubles, the 18-year-old country singer mixed up some words, singing No Jose instead of O say, some fans noticed.

Deschanel's performance comes just days after country singers Trace Adkins and Ronnie Dunn delivered anthems for Game 2 and 3 duties, respectively.

Pop star Demi Lovato will take the anthem stage on Monday for Game 5 of the World Series, which is currently tied 1-1.

Following her national anthem performance on Sunday, Deschanel jetted off to work on her new TV show, New Girl.

But Deschanel's sudden departure was not received well by many fans and viewers at home. During the seventh inning stretch, her New Girl co-stars and fellow Fox actors, Harry Shum Jr. and Matthew Morrison from Glee, appeared on the big screen, without Deschanel.

Would have loved to have watched the whole game but I had to catch a plane so I can go to work tomorrow. That's all guys. I'm not a jerk, Deschanel later wrote on Twitter.

Perhaps most famous for her bangs, big eyes and adorkable demeanor, Deschanel is also one half of the indie pop duo, She & Him.

The duo is gearing up for the release of their upcoming Christmas album, A Very She & Him Christmas, out Tuesday. The holiday album includes covers of classics including Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Silver Bells and Baby, It's Cold Outside.

Deschanel's new Fox series, New Girl, was recently picked up for a full season.
