A girl died while five others were injured when a pick-up truck hit them while they were running across the street across an Oklahoma City high school on Monday.

The victims were members of Moore High cross country team and were training along the heavily travelled North Eastern Avenue around 3 P.M. shortly after their dismissal, ABC 13 reported.

The school identified the student that was killed to be high school senior Rachel Freeman.

Among the five injured students, three of them were in critical condition.

The suspect was 56-year-old Max Leroy Townsend who was mourning the death of his son, Cody Townsend, 29, who was killed in multi-vehicle crash in Moore on Sunday.

According to police spokesman Jeremy Lewis, Townsend’s pick-up truck struck a vehicle before slamming over the students and hit two other vehicles as he drove away.

A witness was able to stop Townsend after chasing him for three blocks before he was taken into police custody.

The suspect was booked at the Cleveland County Jail for first-degree manslaughter and six counts of failure to stop and render aid.

Police suspect that alcohol was involved and the toxicology results are still pending.
