A teenage boy was arrested and charged for stabbing another teenager to death. The incident took place at Darwin, Australia, on Tuesday (May 19).

The 15-year-old boy, whose identity was not revealed, allegedly stabbed another teen of the same age after a fight broke out between the two.

Northern Territory Police responded to reports of an altercation between two males in the Bagot community. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, who was also 15 years old, unconscious and bleeding profusely. They discovered that the boy had suffered a stab wound to his chest.

He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, the assailant was taken into custody and was being held at Don Dale Youth Detention Centre.

Police believe that the boys were known to each other, however, the relationship between the two remained unclear at the time.

"There were a number of people present, as it is a community where a lot of people live. As to how closely involved people are or aren't, that's still to be investigated," said Detective Troy Stephens. "The investigation is still in its infancy, there are quite a number of enquiries that are still ongoing."

The victim’s body was sent for autopsy.

The boy attended his first court trial on May 20. The trial was adjourned as the court was awaiting the results of the pathology and toxicology reports of the victim.

"The brief (of evidence) has to be provided by that date, but noting that the reports are likely not to be back by that date," said presiding Judge Sue Oliver.

"I'm not going to make an at risk order for you, you seem to be okay with the way in which you are being managed in care. If there is any concern, I'm sure that the people there will take care of that,” the judge added.

The accused reportedly shouted "I love you" to his father, who was present during the court proceedings.

He was remanded in custody and his next court appearance was scheduled for July 1. No further information was available as the case was still under investigation.
