A 15-year-old teenager has been charged with first-degree murder and concealment of homicidal death over the demise of a 75-year-old man in Chicago.

The boy, whose name has not been released because of his age, reportedly beat 75-year-old Earl Miller with a baseball bat before setting him on fire. The victim's body was found next to his home on Sept. 22, reported Fox News.

An autopsy revealed that Miller had died from multiple injuries from the assault. A second suspect has not been charged.

The teen attended an initial hearing on Thursday in which he was ordered to remain in custody, according to Tandra Simonton, a spokesperson for the office of Cook County State's Attorney.

The Chicago Police Department released surveillance videos in November and asked the public's assistance in identifying the two suspects in the case. In the footage, one can see a man inside a convenience store and a younger person walking outside.

According to Braxton Usher, Miller's niece, her family is just relieved that the case isn't going unnoticed. "No one deserves to die like that at all ... I wonder how he was feeling and what he was thinking," Chicago Sun-Times quotes Usher as saying.

Miller, who worked as a city truck driver, had also won a championship fighting in a Catholic Youth Organization boxing tournament. His niece calls him an "old school" guy who kept to himself and enjoyed taking long walks.

While one suspect has been nabbed and charged, the search for the other person pictured in the surveillance footage circulated by the police is ongoing. According to Usher, the detective working on the case reached out to the family after the arrest and said that the teen in custody was giving investigators more information.

The authorities asked anyone with tips on the case to call detectives at 312-747-8271.

Just recently, two 15-year-old New York residents were accused of murdering a 20-year-old woman. Anmarie Morales and her friend Nore Hatchett beat Nyla Bond with a cane before stabbing her to death, reported The New York Times. Bond and Morales became friends a year ago and spent a lot of time together at the Bronx apartment where Bond lived with her mother.

According to Bond's mother, Morales had attacked her daughter with a knife in October but instead of being mad, Morales forgave her friend. Bond's mother attributed her daughter's decision to a mental illness that gave her a childlike naivete.
