A woman has been arrested after the body of her 5-month-old baby boy was found wrapped in a blanket in her Kentucky home's attic.

Kentucky State Police arrested 28-year-old Shaylynn Curtis from her home Tuesday after they found the body of her infant son in the attic. Curtis has been charged with abuse of a corpse, police said as per Lex18.

Curtis' friends, who were concerned about the infant's welfare, informed the police about a deceased child. When the officers responded to Curtis' home at around 6 p.m. Tuesday, they made the shocking discovery.

The investigators said Curtis was living with her baby at the home, and the infant died sometime during the night of Oct. 25. The cause of death is still under investigation, according to the police.

After her child's death, Curtis reportedly took the body of the deceased infant to a friend's house. She then returned home and wrapped the baby in a blanket before placing him in the attic, police said.

The investigators said Curtis neither attempted to call 911 nor tried to seek medical help for the infant, reported WSPD Local 6.

The officials conducted the infant's autopsy Wednesday and are awaiting the report to determine the exact cause of the child's death. Meanwhile, Curtis has been sent to Christian County Jail.

Last month, a woman in India was detained after she was found living with the decomposing body of her husband for two days. The 45-year-old woman, identified by her first name Jhingi, was found living with the body of her 55-year-old husband Syama Mundari at her home in Bhubaneshwar, a city in India's eastern state of Odisha. The incident came to light after neighbors called the police complaining about a foul smell emanating from the couple's house. After a preliminary investigation, the police arrested Jhingi on suspicion of murder and abuse of a corpse, though the exact cause of her husband's death could not be determined. The suspect denied the allegations by saying her husband died of some illness, but she reportedly failed to give a satisfactory explanation for the minor injuries found on the man's body and the reason for hiding the corpse.
