Following Jay Smith’s messy split with Ashley Martson, the “90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?” star has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody thanks to his boss Ego.

The Jamaica native was detained on July 3 after violating an order of protection obtained by Ashley. Luckily, the employer empathized with Jay’s “bad relationship” and posted his $4,500 bail on Wednesday.

In a statement to In Touch, the Ego Ink tattoo shop owner explained why he chose to bail jail out of the detention center.

“I just know that Jay needed help and it seemed right to help a very very wonderful energetic guy. [I] can’t see him stuck in an unfortunate situation. He deserves better,” he said.

Ego revealed he came to America at a young age and can relate to Jay’s situation. “I was in the same boat [as] him pretty much in every way when I was younger. I was incarcerated for a long time with no visits, phone calls, letters or money in the books,” he explained.

“I came from the Philippines when I was 17 years old and wanted to be a tattooist when I first came to [the] U.S., I was in a bad relationship before as well with a woman who has mental issues, so I pretty much understand where he is coming from,” the tattoo shop owner added. continued.

Ego admitted he wanted to help Jay turn his life around. “So if I can help someone not go to the same path I went through and waste their time in jail, I just feel that it’s the right thing to do,” he shared.

“Plus, [getting] to know him that he is very a good human being and means well.”

Jay’s marriage to Ashley fell apart after she discovered he downloaded a dating app a few days after their wedding. Although she tried to fix their relationship, she eventually filed for divorce when she learned Jay cheated on her with multiple women.

Despite Jay’s infidelity, Ego thinks the TLC star deserves a chance to learn from his mistakes. “Some people just get the worst luck and hoping they learn from it,” Ego said.

Although Ashley and Jay’s journey on “90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?” Season 4 is over, fans can still tune into the challenges of falling in love with someone from a different country.

“90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days” Season 3 premieres Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT on TLC.
