“90 Day Fiance" star Jason Hitch has died from complications due to COVID-19. His sister Shannon confirmed the news to TMZ on Wednesday.

Shannon said the 45-year-old U.S. Army veteran and Florida native died with his family by his side in a Florida ICU. She added that while her brother had no preexisting conditions they were aware of, he was unvaccinated against the deadly virus to the best of their knowledge.

“He will be greatly missed,” she said.

On Wednesday, TLC issued a statement regarding the death of the reality star, saying, “We are saddened to hear about the passing of Jason Hitch and send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this time.”

Hitch starred in the second season of “90 Day Fiance,” which sees people from foreign countries travel to the U.S. for 90 days to live with their American fiances for the first time. That’s where he met and later married 23-year-old Cassia Tavares, who moved from Brazil to be with Hitch.

During the show, Tavares was often unimpressed with Hitch’s financial status, his car, the weather and Florida in general but Hitch tried to keep her entertained. “Cassia getting bored here has been on my mind,” he told the cameras during a confessional shortly after they arrived back in the U.S. “The next 90 days is gonna be tough. I hope that I can fix all that.”

“I don’t think I’m going to sleep at all for the next 90 days because I’m going to walk around thinking, ‘What am I going to do to keep her happy?’” he said in another episode.

As a married couple, Hitch and Tavares put up a mail-order snack business called Gifting Fun. They parted ways in 2017 and officially got divorced in February 2019.

Hitch said at the time that his communications with Tavares were “cordial and civil” even after they parted ways. He also revealed that lack of communication played a big role in their split. He further said he was still hoping to get married in the future.
