Aaron Carter is reportedly checking into rehab Friday, according to reports. The "I Want Candy" singer is reportedly taking the time to privately focus on improving his health and wellness.

Carter considered rehab for some time prior to entering, TMZ reported Friday. He agreed to begin his stint following a police visit to his Florida residence Thursday. The singer aims to get back on track with his musical career upon departing the medical facility, the gossip site reported.

"Aaron has decided to enter a facility to improve his health and work on his overall wellness," Steve Honig, Carter's publicist, told International Business Times on Friday. "He is going to do this privately and focus all his attention on being the best person and performer possible. He is grateful for the support and love from his fans and looks forward to coming back stronger than ever before."

The name of Carter's treatment center remains unconfirmed at this time.

Carter shared a cryptic tweet on Twitter Friday that seemed to hint at his upcoming rehab stay. He wrote: "Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me."

Carter, who has had a tumultuous relationship with his family, is no stranger to rehab. The singer reportedly stayed at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, for a month in January 2011 to combat addiction issues. He was able to "heal some emotional and spiritual issues he was dealing with," according to Us Weekly.

Carter's rehab entry comes on the heels of an unusual phone call made to St. Petersburg Police Department Thursday over the star's wellness. Local law enforcement immediately responded to the call but later reported that "everything was fine" and there wasn't any "need of assistance," E! reported.

The former child star has made headlines in the past few months. Carter was arrested in Georgia on DUI charges alongside possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in mid-July. Madison Parker, the singer's former girlfriend, was also arrested at the scene.

Carter revealed his bisexuality shortly after the Georgia arrest, which is said to be unrelated to his eventual breakup with Parker, TMZ reported in August. Carter detailed his experience in a letter posted to Twitter a day before calling it quits with Parker.

"This doesn't bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off me," he wrote in August. "There were years that went by that I thought about it, but it wasn't until I was 17-year-old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with."

The tweet, however, has since been deleted from the star's account.

The troubled singer confronted his dependency on painkillers during a September 13 episode of "The Doctors" by taking a drug test on the show. The test determined that he was positive for marijuana, benzodiazepines (i.e. Xanax), opiates and hydrocodone. Combining benzodiazepines with opiates often results in the accidental deaths of many painkiller addicts.

"It's not going to be easy, I know that it's a hard road and I understand the acute anxiety, as needed," Carter said. "For me personally, I decided to do other things besides [popping pills]."
