“Sooner or Later” singer Aaron Carter is happy he split from his girlfriend Madison Parker. Days before the breakup, Carter revealed he was bisexual in a an emotional message last week.

Parker didn’t know how to accept Carter’s orientation. “Madison really was not supportive of Aaron's sexuality and didn’t understand it,” an insider told Us Weekly Friday

Carter, 29, was suffering with anxiety when he was with Parker. “Madison was not a good influence on Aaron, and Aaron is better off without her,” the source said. “He’s able to live an authentic life for the first time. He’s finally free and doesn’t have the anxiety he was having.”

Their split wasn’t amicable, but Carter helped Parker move her things out of his home. “Madison moved out a week ago,” the insider said. “Aaron asked her to leave and helped her pack her things, but she was angry and calling him names when she was leaving.”

Carter didn’t mention his split on Twitter, but he did post uplifting messages. “If you want something or anyone enough you should be able to achieve it,” he wrote Thursday. “Whatever challenges come my way I will face them.”

He was moved by all the support he received after coming out as bisexual last week. “Waking up so overwhelmed by your love and support. Looking forward to seeing you all this Thursday in my hometown,” he wrote Sunday.

In Carter’s announcement the day before, he revealed he started to find boys and girls attractive when he was 13 years old. “There were years that went by that I thought about it, but it wasn’t until I was 17-years old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with,” he said. “This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off of me.”
