  • Addison Rae faced backlash after sharing photos of herself covering a preliminary event for Saturday’s UFC 264
  • She tweeted that she got "fired" the next day
  • Some accused her of taking the job from a more qualified person, while fans showed support for her

TikTok star Addison Rae has responded to the criticism over her UFC reporter gig.

Rae, 20, faced backlash after sharing photos of herself on Twitter Friday holding a UFC microphone at a preliminary event for UFC 264, where Dustin Poirier beat Conor McGregor in Las Vegas Saturday.

"I studied broadcast journalism in college for 3 whole months to prepare for this moment," tweeted the influencer, who was previously enrolled at Louisiana State University but dropped out, Entertainment Tonight noted.

However, some sports fans and social media users took issue with her UFC gig and her tweet and accused her of taking a job from a more qualified person.

The following day, Rae — who boasts 125 million followers across her socials — took to Twitter to joke about the backlash, writing, "nvm y’all got me fired."

An unnamed source told E! News that the TikTok star only "did one social activation for UFC where she interviewed Dustin because they're from the same town, Lafayette," and was not an official correspondent.

Rae's reaction, however, did not appease some Twitter users who appeared convinced that she did not deserve the job.

"You got yourself fired when you flaunted you 'whole 3 months' of schooling. Some things are better not said, but I understand you wouldn’t be able to see how this looks bad since your in your protected bubble," one commented.

"Good. You didn’t deserve it & you’ve never worked hard in your life. Proof everything is just handed to you," another wrote.

"Influencers like this [clown emoji] don't understand that people actually EARN a DEGREE in entry level positions. What's next?; I took a Social Justice class and I'm opening up a Law Firm to practice law or I took a Biology class and I have a desire thingy to prescribe medication," a third user wrote.

Meanwhile, others expressed support for the TikTok sensation. "Cancel culture is so bad. SAD! The haters and losers will never prevail," Michael Gruen wrote.

"I don’t think u guys understand that she went to college to do this exact sorta thing and she’s finally getting the chance and she wanted to share how excited she was and y’all bashed her that’s disgusting," a second supporter added.

"damn why everyone so salty you were a reporter they stay hating on u queen don’t listen to them," a third netizen wrote.

Rae's UFC 264 gig is only one of her several new projects. In March, she released her single "Obsessed," and she is also set to star in the upcoming movie "He's All That."

When asked about joining reality TV, Rae did not give a concrete response but made it clear that she is not closing her door on it.

"I don't know. I feel like reality is a tough world to get into, so I'm not rushing into anything, but who knows? Maybe one day," she told Entertainment Tonight.
