The Dog With The Human Face
Tonik, the dog with the human face, is up for adoption. Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group

Tonik is the latest dog celebrity of the Internet. Plucked from obscurity, Tonik is a shih tzu-poodle mix who is available for adoption and, most importantly, is a dog with a human face.

Tonik was just another dog that was up for adoption on Petfinder from the Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group in Mishawaka, Ind., before the Internet recognized that his face, while loveable and dog-like, seemed very human, especially its eyes. Now Tonik is known as the dog with the human face, but the most important fact remains that he needs a home.

According to his Petfinder bio, Tonik comes from “a kill shelter in Kentucky, and there is a very sweet boy in there who is trying to figure things out and enjoy people. It seems he has not had too much socialization. He is great with other dogs.” While Tonik seems sweet enough, the bio does not recommend placing him in a home with young children, as proper training and handling are needed for him make the proper adjustment to a new home.

Tonik is two years old and weighs 11 pounds and is up to date on all shots. The bio says Tonik has been well-treated. “He has been vet checked, neutered, microchipped, heart worm-tested negative, is up to date on routine shots & wormings including rabies & has been treated with advantage multi per our protocol.”

Unfortunately the Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group does not ship their dogs, so if you wanted to adopt Tonik, you would need to go to their facility. The group asks for any individual interested to send an email in order to fill out an adoption application.

An application and a trip to Indiana is just a small price to pay to adopt a dog as special as Tonik, the dog with the human face that friends will immediately recognize from the Internet. Most importantly, while his fame may be a selling point, only people serious about adopting and taking care of a dog should apply.
