KEY POINTS

  • The AirPods Pro's wireless nature offers a lot of convenience for users
  • Users can rename their AirPods Pro so it will be easier to connect to them
  • The process is easy, but requires a steady Bluetooth connection between the iPhone and AirPods Pro

Apple's AirPods Pro are great audio accessories for iPhone, iPad and MacBook users. Not only do they offer good sound quality and the ability to shut out outside noise for even better focus on whatever is being played, they also work without requiring users to deal with messy cables that tend to get tangled with everything they come in contact with.

The AirPods Pro's ability to connect wirelessly with other Apple devices is a very convenient thing. Owning several AirPods and AirPods Pros, or trying to connect to an AirPods Pro inside a room where several wireless headphones are present, however, can present a problem – users just might connect their device to the wrong audio accessory, and that's not very convenient at all.

Thankfully, it's possible to rename the AirPods Pro so that users can quickly find them and connect to them for an undisturbed audio experience. Here's how, courtesy of the folks over at Apple Insider.

  • First, AirPods Pro owners and users should launch the Settings app on their iPhone
  • Second, once the Settings app is up and running, users should tap on Bluetooth
  • Third, users should locate the AirPods Pro they want renamed, then tap on the “i” icon next to it
  • Fourth, users should tap on Name in the menu that will appear
  • Fifth, by this time, users should be able to edit the name to whatever they want. “[user's name]'s AirPods Pro” will be a good name unless the user has several pairs of AirPods Pro.
  • Lastly, once done with renaming, users should tap the back arrow twice to return to the Bluetooth list.

The new name for the AirPods Pro should be displayed in the Bluetooth list. If the name isn't shown, users should try and redo the process above.

Reminders

Users will do well to keep in mind that the iPhone has to be continually connected to the AirPods Pro for the renaming process to succeed. Losing the Bluetooth connection in the middle of the process results in renaming failure, which means users will have to redo the process for it to work.

Apple Insider suggests that the best way to ensure that the Bluetooth connection stays on is by wearing the AirPods Pro. Users can even play music while renaming the device, just to make sure that the connection is secure.
