  • 31-year-old Calvin Willie Martinez has been missing for seven months

A New Mexico mother fears for the safety of her son whom she haven't seen or heard from since Mother's Day.

Aldeena Lopez told Dateline that it has been seven months since she last talked to her son, Calvin Willie Martinez. It was Mother's Day, and the 31-year-old called her from a truck stop in Albuquerque.

“At first, everything seemed fine when he called. He told me Happy Mother's Day and said he'd be home [to Farmington] soon,” said Lopez, adding that their conversation was cut short. She tried calling the number and reached Love's truck stop.

Unfortunately, Martinez didn't answer. It was the last time Lopez had heard from his son.

Since then, Lopez had been in contact with Martinez's friends and ex-girlfriends. But, just like her, they have no clue as to where Martinez is.

“I trust them to tell me if they see him. I know they're just as worried and have been out looking for him,” she said.

NBC News said that Martinez's family told Dateline that they have searched the expanse of Farmington and Albuquerque, but their efforts proved to be futile.

Martinez's disappearance is now taking a toll on his family, especially to his 11-year-old son who continues to ask for his father.

Lopez said that Martinez's son knows that he's missing, but she still makes it a point to remain strong for her grandson.

“We don't hide anything. We talk about it with him,” expressed Lopez.

Calvin's sister, Becky, who also talked to Dateline, said that a family tragedy triggered something in his brother and changed him for good.

Martinez lost his girlfriend and youngest son in a house fire in December 2014.

“It changed him. It changed all of us. They were our family. He was never the same after that,” said Becky, adding that his brother didn't want to work and “slipped into a deep depression.”

Both mother and sister admitted that Calvin turned to alcohol to drown the tragic loss, but his family stayed by his side and helped him cope with his struggles.

“He was going through so much and we understood that. We tried to help him. Even though he had a drinking problem, he's still someone's dad, someone's child, someone's family,” said Lopez.

Lopez also said that months before his disappearance, Martinez had been hitchhiking back and forth from Farmington, New Mexico to Albuquerque while working as a construction worker and to visit his friends.

Despite no clues to where her son is, Lopez has remained resolute that someday he will find his son.

“It's a nightmare not knowing where he is or what he's doing, or if he's safe... if someone did something to him.

“It's overwhelming and heartbreaking. I feel like I'm not doing enough. But I just keep going. I have to. I have to find my son,” said Lopez.

Martinez's disappearance has reached social media, and various groups have shared his story, including the Farmington Police Department and MissingFlowersMMIWM.
