KEY POINTS

  • Amanda Bynes wants her mental health disorder treated
  • The treatment was for her bipolar disorder, and not in some sort of addiction
  • Bipolar disorder is a mental illness characterized by rapid cycles in changes of mood

Amanda Bynes has a mental issue and she’s seeking treatment for it; hence, the circulating rumors about her alcohol and drugs addiction are “completely false,” according to her lawyer.

David Esquibias, Bynes’ attorney, said on Wednesday that the “What A Girl Wants” actress decided to seek treatment for her mental health issues, thereby, slamming the circulating reports that the intervention sought for was for addiction to drugs and alcohol, NBC News reported.

Bynes, in 2014, reportedly revealed that she’s been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and manic depression. In article posted by High Watch Recovery Center, it described Bynes “bizarre behavior” displayed on Twitter and the series of arrest was, in fact, a cry for help for her mental health disorder.

Bipolar disorder is used to be known as manic depressive illness or manic depression. This disorder is characterized by mood swings from manic or “high” to depressed or “low,” according to an article published by Harvard Health Publishing (Harvard Medical School).

The manic episode is characterized by periods of high and/or irritable mood. During this episode, the patient may run into trouble with the authorities. Why? It has been reported that the patient under the disorder’s manic state is full of energy; hence, he or she becomes really active but usually in an unproductive way. More often than not, the person who has this disorder has a tendency to develop a kind of thinking that’s far from the reality. He or she may exhibit psychotic symptoms such as delusion and/or hallucinations.

Bipolar disorder is also characterized by “rapid cycling.” This means that the person suffering from the said mental health disorder may show a rapid switch between manic and depressive symptoms. Meanwhile, a “mixed” episode reportedly happens if the manic and depressive symptoms overlap a period.

Left untreated, the manic episode reportedly may last for an average of two to four months, while the depressive episode could last up to eight months or even longer. It’s note-worthy that the episodes may reportedly become more frequent and last longer each passing time.

Prevention of bipolar disorder is reportedly not possible, but there are several ways to treat bipolar disorder that’s why it’s very important for the person concerned to see a doctor so he or she could be assessed and evaluated.

In her interview with the Paper Magazine, back in 2018, Bynes admitted how sorry she was for her unpleasant behaviors. She said she was ashamed and embarrassed of the things she said on Twitter.
