An Amazon employee who works at the company's warehouse in Queens, New York, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The news came Wednesday when workers received a text message via Amazonians United that a positive case of the virus was discovered in their facility.

“We are supporting the individual who is now in quarantine,” Amazon spokesperson Rena Lunak told The Atlantic.

Lunak added in aside from their routine deep cleaning of the facility, they have decided to temporarily close its Queens delivery station and sent their associates home with full pay.

The unidentified employee became the first positive case of COVID-19 among Amazon's hourly warehouse employees in the United States.

However, one employee told The Atlantic he learned about the case from his fellow employees, and that the management failed to notify them about the issue.

He also said workers believed that they were still expected to report for their night shift.

The company denied the allegations through an email, saying that they have “notified all associates” about the COVID-19 case.

The management also sent day-shift workers home to disinfect and sanitize the workplace, the outlet added.

Another Amazon employee, this time in Seattle, also tested positive for COVID-19 and was the first Amazon employee in the U.S. to have the flu-like illness, the New York Post reported.
