Apple might be doing away with the 5.8-inch iPhone design and replace it with a new one that might prove to be a hit among many consumers.

According to a research note from notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to release three new iPhone models in 2020. The note, obtained by MacRumors, seems in line with an earlier report from DigiTimes that said the Cupertino tech company is planning to release three iPhones equipped with OLED Displays.

Kuo’s note specifies that the two of the 2020 iPhones will be high-end devices featuring 5G connectivity, and will come in new sizes that will appeal to many consumers. The smaller high-end iPhone will have a 5.4-inch display, which is smaller than the one used by the iPhone X.

Business Insider noted that the new smaller high-end iPhone might appeal to those who long for a refresh or a new version of the beloved iPhone SE, which packed great specs inside a small body.

On the other hand, Kuo said the larger high-end iPhone will come with a 6.7-inch display, which is a bit wider than the display found on the iPhone XS Max. The new display size, of course, is just right for the “MAX” description as it is the biggest iOS device that won’t be called an iPad.

The 4G LTE model is expected to come with a 6.1-inch display, which is the same size as that of the one found in the iPhone XR. This could very well be the successor to Apple’s midrange iPhone XR, and can be expected to have a lower price compared to the other 5G devices.

A new iPhone SE?

The 5.4-inch 2020 iPhone with OLED display and 5G connectivity might come at a size that’s more than welcome to those who wanted a new iPhone SE. With the specs that it’s expected to come with, however, it might be far from the “budget offering” the iPhone SE was during its time.

The iPhone SE was one of the best -- if not the best -- iPhone for many consumers. It became a hit when it was released in 2016 thanks to its $350 selling price, its internal specs that were comparable to the iPhone 6S, and its small body.

The new 5.4-inch iPhone might have a small body, but will Apple be willing to sell it at a low price, considering it has 5G? We don’t know. For now, fans are advised to keep their eyes on the coolest iPhone features unveiled this recent WWDC.
