James Cameron is getting ready to push the limits on what movies can accomplish with “Avatar 2.” The fans will see some familiar characters from the original movie that became a huge box office hit across the globe, and the film will also introduce a few new characters.

Filming of the movie is currently ongoing, and Cameron has been teasing details about it on social media from time to time. They teased some details back in November 2019 on Twitter while announcing the production wrap for the year.

After exploring the jungles and skies of the moon Pandora, the next film will take the fans deep inside the ocean of this fictitious world. The photo that was shared last year was that of the deck of a ship called Sea Dragon, which is a massive ship featured in the sequel that will take other ships into the ocean.

Earlier this year, the official Twitter page of the franchise teased some concept arts of the movie. The post promised that the sequel will explore new parts of Pandora.

The plot of “Avatar 2” will be about a second invasion of Pandora by R.D.A., Screen Rant reported. Fans will remember R.D.A. as the military force that invaded the alien moon in the first film. The main aim of the human invaders is to get the right to mine the rare mineral unobtainium, which the people of Earth desperately need.

Some of the familiar characters from the first movie who will be back are Jake (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), and the villain Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). The actors who will be joining the franchise for the first time include Vin Diesel and Kate Winslet. Details about the new characters are currently being kept under wraps.

“Avatar 2” is set to be released on Dec. 17, 2021.
